Instructions:
The hospital/health center that you are working at is implementing new strategies to help tobacco users quit smoking. However, cost of implementation and feasibility seems to be a major concern. The new head of your department has asked you for a suggestion, taking into consideration the resources available at your workplace and the attitudes and culture of your patients towards smoking.
Step 1: Reflect
Based on the contents of the module, reflect on why BTIs are highly recommended to help patients stop smoking. Consider the following:
- What makes BTIs effective?
- What is the feasibility for implementation in your workplace?
Step 2: Suggest
Suggest how the implementation of BTIs can be beneficial to improving smoking cessation outcomes among your patients. Create a short piece of writing (400-500 words) that encompasses your answers. Use the following points to guide your discussion:
- Provide brief background information on your workplace and patients. Include an overview of strategies/interventions that are currently implemented to promote smoking cessation, and how successful they have been. If there are no strategies/interventions currently implemented, feel free to write about your own experiences with patients.
- Indicate how the patients can benefit from the implementation of BTIs.
- Explain how/why the implementation of BTIs is feasible and accessible for your hospital/health center and patients.
- Indicate whether you think BTIs alone is sufficient to reduce tobacco use among your patients. If not, explain why, and suggest what other measures you think may be necessary.
Step 3: Share
To share your work, click on the “Add a new discussion topic” button under the post and paste your work in the “Message” box. Make sure to reference others’ intellectual property when necessary.
