Activity 3: Psychotic Disorders and Personality Disorders (230 minutes) Forum
In this activity, you will write a reflection that discusses how psychotic disorders and personality disorders can be managed and remediated using various strategies and techniques.
Step 1. Analyze (30 minutes)
Read and analyze the fictional case below:
You are the resident psychiatrist of the local hospital. For the past two years, the three most common types of patients have been referred to your team for support:
- schizophreniac patients
- patients with personality disorders
- dissociative disorders
During the course of two years, there has been an alarming increase in the number of these patients who return to your care due to relapses and recurrences of their past conditions. As a resident psychiatrist, examine the potential reasons for these relapses, reflecting on what may have gone wrong with the treatment and management strategies that your team has used to address these conditions.Step 2. Respond (180 minutes)
Write a 300-600-word reflection that addresses the following questions:
- What are some possible shortcomings for the management, treatment, and remediation of the disorders stated in Step 1?
- How can management and treatment of schizophreniac patients be improved in the following settings:
- Assisted admission care and treatment
- Involuntary admission care and treatment
- What are the best practices to apply by mental health and non-mental health specialists in managing patients with personality disorders and dissociative disorders?
