Activity 6: Program Proposal for Suicide Prevention of the Youth (260 minutes) Forum

In this activity, you will write a program proposal for suicide prevention of youth diagnosed with a specific psychiatric disorder.

      Step 1. Analyze (30 minutes)

      Analyze the case scenario below:

Suppose you are the head of the Youth Welfare and Development Department of your locality, and there is an alarming increase in the number of children and adolescents reported to have attempted suicide, which is also associated with a specific psychiatric disorder [your selection]. As the department head/medical practitioner, you are requested to design a proposal for a program to address this current problem.

Based on the above scenario, select one common psychiatric disorder in children and adolescents that is usually associated with suicidality.

      Step 2. Prepare (210 minutes)

Prepare a 300-800-word proposal that facilitates safety and support for youth patients diagnosed with a specific psychiatric disorder leading to suicidality. Ensure that the following components below are covered in your proposal.

      • Title of your program
      • Target audience and settings
        • Intended audience who will benefit from your program.
      • Purpose
        • Provides the framework that sets the direction of the program.
      • Specific target goals/outcomes
        • Provide a plan as to how the purpose will be achieved.
      • Background
        • Provides more information and details about the problem that the program seeks to address by presenting a brief history of the problem and its length with relevant references and statistics.
      • Action items
        • Lay out the potential barriers and solutions to the problem.
        • Effectivity of the solutions to solve the problem.
        • Other specific actions, strategies, methods and resources needed to make it happen.
      • Expected outcomes
        • Layout the expected results of a successful program.
      • Adaptations to geriatric patients
        • Description of adaptations that can be implemented if the program will cater to geriatric patients.

      Step 3. Share (10 minutes)
