Discussion Forum 4: Diagnosis and Treatment of Addiction-Related Disorders (200 minutes)
In this activity, you will explore two screening tools (AUDIT and CAST), describe how these tools can be used to diagnose addiction-related disorders, and describe treatment methods based on the screening tool results.
Step 1. Explore (30 minutes)
Explore the two screening tools listed below by taking the tests yourself. Then, analyze the meaning of your results using the interpretation legend of your test scores for each tool.
Step 2. Respond (150 minutes)
Describe your experience of using the two screening tools by writing a 200-500-word review with the following inclusions:
- Description of how these tools can be used to diagnose addiction-related disorders such as alcohol and cannabis addiction.
- Explanation of how these tools can be effectively used to select the appropriate treatment for addiction-related disorders.
- Description of common appropriate treatment and management strategies that can be recommended for the following screening results:
- Low-risk level of alcohol and substance use disorders.
- High-risk level of alcohol and substance use disorder.
