Activity 13: Health Policy Communications (240 minutes) Forum
You will be given a series of health policies and management issues with different target audiences. Choose one from each of the policy and management issues listings. Then, you will apply effective strategies and use different channels (e.g., letter to the editor, social media posts) to communicate the issue. You will need to justify your strategy and choice of channel.
Step 1: Review and Research
- Review the learning resources on effective communication strategies and technologies for public health.
- Here are the options of health policies. From this list, please select 1 to research and work on:
- Substance Abuse Policy
- Vaccination Policy
- Nutrition Policy
- Here are the options of management issues. From this list, please select 1 to research and work on:
- Underuse of generics and higher-than-necessary prices for medicines
- Data breaches
- Nursing and Physician Shortage
- Now that you are familiar with your topic of choice, select an audience that you feel needs to know about the issue. Some examples are ministry of health workers, hospital managers, the general public, universities, professional societies, etc.
- Based on the topic and the audience, define the channels and technologies that will be best suited for this communication exercise. Be creative, you have multiple options available that include but are not limited to written briefs, videos, presentations, social media posts, letters to the editor, etc.
- Reflect on why the technology and channel of your choice is the best strategy to reach and engage with your audience. Write a 150-400 word justification that explains why your communication strategy is suitable for the topic and audience. Also, write a brief objective statement that explains what is the goal you are planning to achieve with your communication piece.
