- Explain the classification of high-risk neonates.
- Identify high-risk conditions (including clinical manifestations) in neonates that need special care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
- Discuss factors that place neonates at high risk for care in the NICU.
- Describe the organization of services within the NICU.
- Identify the interdisciplinary team involved in the provision of care in the NICU.
- Identify the signs of stress and fatigue in neonates.
- Apply the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, intervene, and evaluate care for high-risk neonates.
- Explain nursing considerations in the management of high-risk neonates in the NICU and their families (including developmental care).
